Choosing a plant by climate zone

It is worth choosing a plant depending on where you live. Consult the reference table to choose the most suitable species. Please note that the table specifies the species of plants for growing outdoors in a specific climate zone. The plants listed can be grown as indoor plants in areas with a different climate.

Which plant to choose for beginners
Beginners should start with less demanding plants. So dogwoods are incredibly resilient. Cypresses, in particular Chamaecyparus pissifera, are also very hardy. Maples are afraid of frost and grow slowly, but they are quite easy to work with. Pines, larches and cedars have a similar property. To begin with, it is still worth choosing a fast-growing species to see the result sooner. This will help you not to lose interest and you will quickly acquire practical skills.

Bonsai from seeds
If you decide to start growing bonsai from seeds, you need to understand that this is a very long process. Use this method together with others. But I would advise you to start with buying a plant for bonsai. I want to warn those who decided to grow a dwarf tree from a seed that there are no special seeds for bonsai! Now many sites offer this product. But a miniature tree is not a special type, it is formed from ordinary types as a result of pinching and trimming, over a long period of time.
Choosing the Right Plant
If you plan to grow bonsai in an apartment, you should pay attention to heat-loving trees. It is not recommended to grow frost-resistant plants in apartment conditions.
Fast-growing and hardy plants such as maples, cypresses and junipers are best suited as first bonsai.
Avoid starting with slow growing plants such as pine trees.

Don't despair if you live in a cold climate. You can also grow tropical plants, but only indoors. Among them are serissa, ficus, "money tree" (Crassula) and many other species. Surely you have already met these plants, but unfortunately their life is too short, because they are bought for beauty, without the knowledge to grow them properly.
